I didn’t expect real life to be such a factor in not being able to post and communicate with the outside world. Jet leg, a dead phone, traveling from here to there, (and not knowing where there is), misplaced power converters, lack of structure, spotty internet connection, and most importantly Rhinos have keep me from posting.
Well the Rhinos didn’t actually stop me by charging while I was attempting to post but being present did. As many of you know I often discuss my goal to be present- to be in the moment. Living on a to-do list and often saying when I am done with this project I will have more time to ……. Is getting old and no way to live.
Namibia has helped me to start achieving this goal. Circumstances beyond my control and most importantly the incredible adventures we have been on since the moment our plane landed has forced me to stay present. It is just a complete waste of time to stress here. Struggling to get on a computer to post just didn’t seem like the right thing to focus on for the last week and a half.
Having said that I do believe I have sorted most of the issues out -except for the Rhinos, Giraffes and the amazing people and I am hoping to post more often.
Upon arrival to Windhoek our amazing host Sherri Lytle from B2Gold, whisked us off in an air conditioned bus to an incredible Safari lodge about an hour from Windhoek, called Goche Ganas. This is the kind of place you read about in Sunset magazine, a high end resort where your every need is taken care of while all you are expected to do is enjoy the Namibia landscape and the people you are with.
It was a more than perfect start to our trip. We were all able to catch our breath, get clean, and take in the scenery. It was an opportunity for us to actually realize that our three day journey to Africa was complete.
We were treated to amazing wines from Cape Town, South Africa while watching the sun go down and weaver birds feed their babies as we waited for the the bosses of B2Gold to arrive to met us for dinner.
Incredibly warm and friendly we shared laughs, ideas and stories of 10 foot porcupines while enjoying a delicious three course dinner with our colleagues from B2Gold and Little Shop of Physics.
In the morning we had the opportunity to see what most people come to Africa for; the animals. On a game drive through the grounds of the resort we quickly arrived upon two Rhinos enjoying their breakfast. We parked and our guide set up coffee, tea and a delicious chocolate cake as all got out of the vehicle and snapped away. The relatively tame Rhinos were not bothered a bit by us and we spent a good 30 minutes observing them.
I wanted to bottle the early morning light, the sounds of the birds, the Rhinos snorting, cool air, the breeze, and the view and keep it on reserve to open at home.
It was an incredible moment of being present.
